The Krabooz is an innovative pet education brand that sells hermit crabs to kids in Sydney, Australia.
Challenge
The owner of Krabooz came to us looking for a means in which to engage kids (his customers) in an educational and consistant manner, such that kids were encouraged to take the best possible care of their hermit crab pets.
Vision
An application that engages kids in a fun way such that it assists in the everyday care of the Krabooz and ensures the longevity of their relation with the Krabooz brand.
Process
To understand how best to deliver an effective application we worked closely with our end user and client. Shadowing & interviews of our users showed how they interacted with their pets. With a design-lead approach we discovered how gamification could be harnessed to effectively engage with the kids.
Result
The Krabooz Carez cross-platform application: a gamified, Tamagotchi-style system that rewards kids with the timely & accurate caring of their Krabooz pet.
My Role
As a freelance project, I was involved in the entire process of this applications planning, development & implementation. This included researching, workshops, User Interface design, User Experience design and code creation.
Achievements
Successful integration with Phonegap for cross-platform functionality. Review of application on national radio station. 1000+ registered users after just 6 months.
